A fixed overdenture has an acrylic base with a metal substructure that is attached to four or more implants with screws. Another type of fixed overdenture uses a metal or ceramic core with porcelain on the tooth surfaces. Both are referred to as implant-supported fixed overdentures. A removable overdenture has an acrylic base with adapters on its underside that engage small attachments on the implants. Another type of removable overdenture utilizes a metal bar that joins the implants and a denture with several small clips that clasp the bar. This type of overdenture can be removed by the wearer on a daily basis for oral hygiene access and is referred to as an implant-supported removable overdenture.
